Marti Schrank

One of the strong voices of the Democratic Party of Orange County has been our Volunteer Coordinator since 1988.Marti may have been born in Kansas City, Missouri, but she is a native Californian for all intensive purposes. Marti has been politically active for over 45 years, including service as Treasurer for the Fullerton Democratic Women, 1976-78 and as Vice Chair of the Democrats of North Orange County 1979-81.  It was during her activism in the Democratic and Labor Community that Marti met her husband Richard and they have been almost inseparable since then.

Marti’s numerous positions and honors are as follows: Member of the Orange County Democratic Central Committee, Member of the California State Central Committee, Delegate for John Kerry, 2004, Delegate for Bill Clinton 1992 and 1996. Marti serves on the County and State Executive Boards and she is currently a member of the CDP Resolutions Committee.Marti’s Community Service includes: Big Sister of Orange County, Women’s Transitional Living Center, UCI Medical Center Auxiliary, Past President of Women For: Orange County, Steering Committee for the Orange County Community Forum, and one of her favorite groups, The Orange County Interfaith Committee to Aid Farm Workers.Marti was also the recipient of the Solidarity Award from the Orange County Central Labor Council for Excellence in Organizing. She is the go to person for rapid response and manages to get to the picket line and in the newspaper!
Marti is a member of CWA Local 14904 and a member of the Orange County Central Labor Council. Marti always makes sure that any printing or other service is provided by the Union. She has played “Rosie the Riveter” for Women’s History Month and has been named one of Orange Count’s Women who make a difference. Marti was a key person during UFCW strike in 2003/4 helping create and distribute fruit baskets. She was out with the BBQ every day making sure strikers got a hot lunch.  Marti’s great claim to fame however, is her founding of “The Fat Ladies” who serenaded Bob Dornan after he lost to Loretta Sanchez in 1996. Marti not only made the front page of the Orange County Register, she and her group of sirens got national air-time!
